Dunfermline's most famous son, philanthropist Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) bought and donated the park to its citizens. The blue plaque on the plinth reads: Andrew Carnegie Statue - This bronze statue erected to Dunfermline's most famous son was paid for by public subscription. The sculptor was Richard Goulden. 20,000 people attended its unveiling in 1914.
