Arbroath Smokies
At the Kirkcaldy Farmer's Market, the queue is habitually 20 persons deep. Mouthwateringly good. The Arbroath Smokie is prepared to perfection here by famous local man Iain R. Spink http://www.arbroathsmokies.net/. Watch and wonder. Folks cannot resist the urge to buy once they get a whiff of that aroma. More often than not, just devoured on the spot. Hot fresh and juicy. First the farmer sows his seed
THE SOWER The statue on the north west side of the Town House was sculpted by Mr Thomas Whalen, RSA, and cast by Mr George Mancini of Edinburgh. In the words of the sculptor himself: “The figure of The Sower is symbolic of the town and its people. The idea of the figure has its foundations in the many peculiarities of the town, a town in early times run by its Guilds and Crafts - a hardworking early growth, enterprising and industrious, like a plant. Even in this day and age (1956), the town has industries peculiar to itself - textiles, roperies, linoleum, etc., many derived from the flax plant. Indeed it may be said that the town depends on sowing. The Sower was always there and its motto might well be the Bible text - ‘As ye sow, so shall ye reap’. The earth is good, the people vigorous, and since the Sower mounts the corbal of the new Town House where within Civil Administration and Justice are sown, the figure of The Sower is most appropriate.” reference http://www.kirkcaldybook.com/modules/sections/index.php?op=viewarticle&artid=16 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirkcaldy_Town_House

Kirkcaldy
Kirkcaldy was the birthplace of the eighteenth century economist and moral philosopher Adam Smith, he is by far the most well known native of the town and this is acknowledged and reflected in various ways throughout Kirkcaldy. Two examples are here on St Brycedale Avenue, the building nearest the camera is The Adam Smith Theatre and further along the road is Adam Smith College.
