Grain earth house
Another souterrain, entered through the cellar roof. The strange shaped long hump is the course of the underground passage which once linked the cellar to its house. In the centre of an industrial estate, this is one of the more unlikely places for an ancient monument!

Earth House - Kirkwall
Inside the Earth House on the Hatston Industrial Estate. This unusual and mysterious structure is usually locked but the key is locally available. Here Ruaridh progresses along the well-built tunnel towards the main chamber. Reputedly a Grain Store but it seems a little grand for that. In the middle of an industrial complex sits a little mound which you can climb down into. It was used for storing grain.

Kirkwall: postbox № KW15 31, Grainbank
This postbox, at the western extremity of the town, has obviously suffered some kind of damage recently and is currently without a door and sealed off with a mail sack.
