Pentland Crescent, Thurso
Pentland Crescent on the seafront in Thurso, on Scotland's north coast. In the distance is Dunnet Head, the northernmost point on the British mainland. The black and gold fountain to the right of the image dates from around 1900. It was built as a memorial to a well-respected local doctor, and originally stood outside Thurso town hall. It was moved to the seafront in the 1950s. Its paintwork was restored in 2005. A view over Thurso
The huge ex-St Andrew's Church dominates the view. Built in 1875 as the First Free Church, later to become the First United Free Church and then St Andrew's. Became Church of Scotland in 1929. Amalgamated with the nearby St Peter's which became St Peter's and St Andrew's. The original St Andrew's was subsequently closed in 1968. Category B listed but has been substantially modified internally for alternative uses.
