Former Albany Boathouse - now offices
There is a jaunty riverside style to be found in buildings in Kingston, Molesey and Hampton - and perhaps all along the Thames from (say) Putney upstream to Henley and beyond. The stampede to redevelop every possible plot that might give a view of the river has - ironically - destroyed many old buildings that gave the river its charm in the first place. Anyway, the Albany Boathouse - dating from 1893 - has survived. Its barge-boards, pinnacles and "widow's walks" make it a particularly jaunty example of the style I have in mind. It is included within a local conservation area, but I can't find a Listing at the national level. The photo - taken after office-hours in October - isn't as well-lit as I'd have liked. When I passed by earlier a parked furniture van was obstructing the view.

River Thames alongside Lower Ham Road
This cheerful summer scene is seen from a jetty alongside Lower Ham Road, just to the north of Canbury Gardens. The colourful children's canoes together with the yachts make an attractive view.
