Rail Tour with a Bulleid Light Pacific passing Stoneleigh, 1965
Even back in 1965 this was an extremely rare occurrence on that Waterloo - Raynes Park - Epsom line, as steam locomotives had practically never come that way since electrification over 40 years before. Stoneleigh station was 'modern', being opened 17/7/1932. Going towards Epsom on the Locomotive Club of Great Britain's Wealdsman Rail Tour is rebuilt 'Battle of Britain' 4-6-2 No. 34050 'Royal Observer Corps' (built as No. 21C150 in 12/1946, rebuilt 8/1958, withdrawn 8/1965 and scrapped).

Stoneleigh railway station, Surrey
Opened in 1932 by the Southern Railway on the line from Wimbledon to Epsom. View south towards Ewell West and Epsom. When this station was opened, it was in the middle of green fields and was part paid-for by a local speculative housing developer.

Stoneleigh station, 1970
View southward, towards Epsom: ex-LSWR Waterloo - Raynes Park - Epsom etc. line. This station is a 'recent' addition, opened 17/7/32 in response to suburban expansion. (Of possible interest in showing the station 44 years ago, but it also features my son at age 4 years).
