Even back in 1965 this was an extremely rare occurrence on that Waterloo - Raynes Park - Epsom line, as steam locomotives had practically never come that way since electrification over 40 years before. Stoneleigh station was 'modern', being opened 17/7/1932. Going towards Epsom on the Locomotive Club of Great Britain's Wealdsman Rail Tour is rebuilt 'Battle of Britain' 4-6-2 No. 34050 'Royal Observer Corps' (built as No. 21C150 in 12/1946, rebuilt 8/1958, withdrawn 8/1965 and scrapped).
