Departing from Ewell East
On an very wet day, a London Victoria-bound service leaves Ewell East and crosses over Cheam Road, the A232.

The Bridlepath
A short, private residential road off Banstead Road in Ewell. As the name suggests, the road is also public bridleway Epsom & Ewell 13 (and cyclepath), and connects with Cheam Road at Howell Grove, but a barrier prevents through use by vehicular traffic.

Ewell East station from the footbridge
The Croydon & Epsom Railway was opened in 1847 and Ewell East station opened on the same day. The Croydon & Epsom was soon taken over by the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway. This view looks from the footbridge towards Cheam and Sutton. A train for Horsham is approaching the down platform.

Rail privatisation has its pros and its cons, but here is no doubt that the comfortable new Class 377 units introduced by Southern are very popular with the passengers. Here one of these units enters Ewell East on an Up service from Horsham to Victoria.
