West Byfleet: The Catherine of Aragon
As may be surmised The Catherine of Aragon public house is quite close to West Byfleet railway station. In fact one of the first buildings to be constructed near the station when it first opened was a hostelry known as the Byfleet Hotel. The hotel occupied the site where the public house is now. Catherine of Aragon was given the Manor of Byfleet by King Henry VIII in 1533, hence the current day name. The pub's website is here http://thecatherineofaragon.co.uk/

View eastward, towards London; ex-London & South Western Waterloo - West of England main line. The 16.30 Waterloo - Bournemouth/Weymouth 'The Royal Wessex' is for a while being hauled by the first (No. 10201) of the three pioneer Diesels designed by Bulleid for the SR and built at Ashford Works in 1950-54. From 4/55 they were transferred to the LMR and became the basis of the later English-Electric Type 4 1-Co-Co-1 BR Class 40s.
