View NE, towards London right, Woking etc. left: ex-LSWR Waterloo - Woking - West of England main line. The station is some way from the village and the addition 'for Sandown Park' is very relevant.

A view from the up platform of Esher railway station, showing in the foreground the disused steps from the rarely used central platform which have been superseded by a modern footbridge in the distance. Esher railway station, Surrey
Opened as "Ditton Marsh" in 1838 by the London & Southampton Railway, later part of the London & South Western Railway. Over the years, the name was changed to "Esher and Claremont", then "Esher for Claremont", then "Esher for Sandown Park" before settling on just "Esher" in 1955.
