St Cuthberts Church, Monkton
This 12th century church was last used in 1837. It is believed that the great Scottish freedom-fighter, William Wallace, saw a vision of St Andrew here in 1296. On being shown the unhappy state of Scotland, Wallace responded to the challenge of trying to save and unify his country. (Source: church information plaque)
