Cowgate - Mauchline
The plaque above the street name reads:
This is the house tho' built anew
Where Burns cam' weary frae the pleugh
To hae a crack wi' Johnny Doo
on nights at e'en and whiles to taste
his mountain dew wi' Bonnie Jean.
Johnny Doo was the affectionate name for John Dove, the landlord of the Whitefoord Arms, which was home to the rather disreputable Court of Equity.

Mauchline Cross
Junction of the B743 from Ayr to the village of Sorn, with the A76(T) road from Kilmarnock to Dumfries. The car in the foreground is crossing what is known to the very old residents as 'the new' Kilmarnock Road. This replaced the former route via the Cowgate.
