Troon 2nd railway station (site), Ayrshire
Opened in 1839 by the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock & Ayr Railway, later part of the Glasgow & South Western Railway, this station closed to passengers in 1892 when the current (3rd) station on a new alignment opened (see Image). View north towards Barassie and Glasgow. The main station buildings were to the left and are now private residences. The white single storey building centre-right was on the opposite platform. In between the two buildings were 2 parallel platforms and a two track railway line. After closure to passengers, the station was kept as a goods station for many years. The track was finally taken up in the 1990s. (Troon's first railway station was at the harbour, the terminus of the Kilmarnock & Troon Railway, with roots going back to 1812).

Cycle Route 7, Marr College
Another rather mind-stretching transformation of the former railway line at the entrance to Marr College. Although Marr College was built in 1935, it does not appear on the 1938 revision of the OS map, so the actual juxtaposition of the railway and college is obscure.
