Three bollards by a basin
The Caledonian Canal ends in this huge Muirtown Basin at Inverness but this is not the start of the sea passage for any vessel heading for continental Europe. There are two more locks and a railway swing bridge to negotiate before reaching the Moray Firth, which can just be glimpsed above the lower white buildings at the far end of the basin. Beyond this are the green fields and woods of the Black Isle and above them the blue-hazed mountains of Sutherland.
