Whitegates Lodge
This is one of the gate lodges of Gordon Castle Estate. It was built in about 1850, and was originally two houses. It is Category B Listed. See http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB1631.

Small Burn at Whitegate
The burn is named on the 1:25,000 map as Small Burn, and the name seems appropriate. It drains the glen through which the Winding Walks go, and after crossing under the road near Whitegate it joins the Wishart Burn near Gordon Castle Farm. It is almost hidden by new beech foliage.

Winding Walks Car Park
The pay-and-display car park is provided by the Forestry Commission and is well used, even on a grey winter's day.

We followed a forest track that isn't on the map, curious to know where it went. There were various forestry machines parked. Apparently it's not safe to harvest trees in this sort of weather.

A Pile of Boulders
These boulders look as if they have been collected here, perhaps waiting to be incorporated in a building of some sort. The house, marked as Hampshire House on the map, is in the next square.
