Milne's Primary School
Alexander Milne (1742-1839) was in the service of the Duke of Gordon, and sported a fine queue or ponytail. He was ordered to get his hair cut, so he resigned and emigrated to Louisiana, where he made a fortune building the port of New Orleans. In his will he left money to build a school in his native village, and here it is.

Milne's Primary School
Built in 1846 to a design by Thomas Mackenzie, this fine building was superseded as the secondary school when the new Milne's High School was built. A few years ago there was a major controversy when the council wanted to build a new primary school and abandon this one, but the parents and villagers won the argument and this is still Milne's Primary School. Milne's Primary School
A glimpse through the snow-covered branches of a beech tree, still clinging to some of its leaves, of the primary school. In spite of the school being closed due to bad weather, the school grounds had been meticulously ploughed clear, while residents nearby were still having to flounder through deep drifts.
