The last cottage in Westmorland Street is very traditional with walls built of rubble, but the dormers don't match.

Maxwell Street is named after Jane Maxwell, Duchess of Gordon (1748-1812), who was renowned for recruiting soldiers for the Gordon Highlanders in 1784 by rewarding them with a kiss and a shilling. The daughter of Sir William Maxwell of Monreith in Wigtownshire and his wife Magdalen Blair, she married Alexander, 4th Duke of Gordon, in 1767. Note that Maxwell Street has not been cleared of snow, and is now covered with water and slush on top of ice.

Castle Street runs along the boundary between the village and the Gordon Castle grounds. This is the corner of Castle Street and Westmorland Street.

You can just see how the snow is becoming wet and soggy. Westmorland street crosses the High Street, and this is the northern section, looking in the direction of Gordon Castle.

A quiet street in Fochabers, named after Jane Maxwell, Duchess of Gordon, who was famous for welcoming recruits to the Gordon Highlanders with a kiss and a shilling.

This is a tree normally found in more southerly latitudes, but the Fochabers ones have attained impressive size and are producing nuts. It will be interesting to see if the nuts ripen enough to be worth harvesting to eat.
