Former Cinema
The Regal Cinema at 44 Queen Street was built in 1939 by Messrs R Pert and Sons of Montrose to a design by Alexander Cattanach (1895-1977), and became part of Caledonian Associated Cinemas about 1960. It closed as a cinema in 1968, and was used as a bingo hall for some time before being converted into a furniture shop in 1986.

James Square
The plough parked in James Square is not quite as incongruous as it might seem. James Square is the central feature of the new town of Lossiemouth, named Branderburgh (though no-one local ever calls it that) after its founder Lieutenant-Colonel James Brander of Pitgaveny in the 1930s. A century later there was a dispute between Lossiemouth Town Council and Captain James Brander about who actually owned the ground. In 1932 Captain Brander had the Square ploughed up, using this plough, to make a point. The dispute was eventually settled in 1968, the square becoming the property of the Town Council.
