Cromwell's Citadel (believe it or not)
This is pretty much all that remains of the once mighty Citadel built by Oliver Cromwell to subdue the Highlands. It was a 5-sided structure, with defensive 'points' jutting out from each corner giving it a star-like appearance. This grassy mound is one of those "points", and at one time had a hefty wall on top of it, with a guard tower.

All along the Watchtower?
This is what Image looks like on the top. There are a few interesting lumps & bumps with hints of masonry, but the inhabitants of Inverness did such a fine job of stripping the Citadel of reusable building material after the restoration of Charles II that little else remains, bar the earthworks themselves.

The Clock Tower
Located in the Longman part of Inverness, this tower and some fragemnts of walls are all that's left of the Cromwellian Citadel that occupied this site. The Citadel was founded in 1652 and was demolished 9 years later when the monarchy had been restored. The Clock Tower was restored in 2010.

Cromwell's Tower, Cromwell Road, Inverness
This clock tower was formerly thought to be all that remains of Cromwell's fort (completed in 1658) in Inverness. The near square-plan red sandstone clock tower is now believed to date from the late 18th century. It is a Category B listed building. https://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/200379726-inverness-cromwell-road-clock-tower-inverness#.WawHhjGWw5s

Where's the farm?
A bit of research with old maps has led me to discover that MacGregor's above is built on the site of an old steading, known as Citadel Farm. Shame really.
