Through the showroom
The Tayfen estate is viewed through the disused showroom of Opus Cars, while the trees of Tayfen Road and Block 1, Trinity Mews, are visible reflected in the window. This space formerly housed Ferraris and Porsches.

A 4 picture panorama, this picture covers around 90 degrees of field. There used to be a car showroom and repair garage on this site.

Preparing to demolish Opus Cars
This garage site has had several incarnations over the years, selling in turn Nissans, Volvos, Mazdas, White Vans, and sports cars but has now been vacant for years. It was growing huge weeds, and many of the windows were smashed. There were squatters in outbuildings. While the neighbours would have liked to see it back in use, demolition looks like a good alternative. And here we see preparations by a demolition company.

Outside toilet
Opus Cars showroom half demolished. The showroom itself has already gone, leaving the toilet very exposed! A small office and the workshop remain. Work had to stop at this point while the air conditioner was cleared of freon.

Oops - cars meet at junction
Springfield Road meets Spring Lane, Vauxhall meets Skoda.
The older houses of Springfield Road (and the hidden south side of Spring Lane) give way to the 21st century Tayfen Development on the northern side. The new houses replace a steel stockholder, a caravan site and a greyhound track, but required much work to build up and consolidate the low-lying and wet ground of the fen.

Rear of Opus Cars premises
The disused used car lot behind the closed premises of Opus Cars, with the rooftops of Trinity Mews visible behind the showroom/workshops and part of Springfield Road on the right (west) with just a corner of the newer Tayfen estate visible too.

Early for Christmas? Or late?
Leaving your Christmas decorations up after 12th night is supposed to be unlucky. In this case Opus closed for Christmas 2006 and never reopened. The cars went, the pot plants died, the junk mail piled up, but the Christmas Tree continues to decorate the showroom. The Council has grand plans for redevelopment of the whole area, but they seemed to be stalled before the credit crunch - so now I suppose we are stuck with the eyesore for years more.
