Clad to be grey
With apologies to Tom Robinson.
When Haldo took over this ordinary pitch roofed factory building they felt the need to cover it all with grey cladding. Haldo originally made illuminated road signs ('Keep Left' etc.) but now do vehicle graphics, car covers, bicycle racks, and other seemingly unconnected products.

Two examples of the engineering art
A Ferrari 328 GTS poses in front of the framework of the new Asda store.
The car was being delivered to the premises of Haldo, who offer a secure, warm and dry storage facility for the winter.
The men on the cherry pickers in the Asda building are putting up netting just under the roof level - is this to catch items dropped during roof construction?

Vicon House, Western Way
The brick building is still known as the Corona building, having been the drinks warehouse in the 1970s. The building behind was Telestage, who made stage effects for big pop groups and shows. The whole site was bought by Vinten Military (later W Vinten Ltd.), and the 1960s brick construction had the metal cladding added. After takeover by Thales (pronounced Tarlez) the company continues as Europe's leading designer of reconnaissance systems, cameras, and pyrotechnic missile distraction systems.

Pordage's Warehouse, Western Way
The former haulage company warehouse is another building to succumb to demolition for the new ASDA development. The missing roof finally allows light to flood into the building.

The Minden Rose
The Minden Rose pub on the corner of Western Way and Newmarket road Bury St.Edmunds Suffolk. 12th Foot, later the Suffolk Regiment and now the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment, formed part of a force which, with the Prussian Army, campaigned against the French on the continent during the Seven Years War. The Battle of Minden was the culminating and only major battle of the campaign in 1759. The 12th Foot was the senior of the British battalions and was therefore on the right of the line. In the space of a few hours on 1st August, against all odds and following a daring charge, the British defeated the French troops. As the infantry passed through the rose gardens on the morning of the battle, the soldiers picked roses which they fastened to their hats. In honour of this battle, the 1st Battalion continues the custom of wearing red and yellow roses in the head-dress on the anniversary of Minden Day.
