Bury St Edmunds, St John the Evangelist?s church
Built in 1841 of white brick with a magnificent spire, 178 feet tall. Struck by lightning in 1871 and rebuilt a year later. At the corners of each stage of the tower are turrets with conical spires. If it were not for the saving grace of the tower the rest of the building could easily be mistaken for a Victorian village hall (with an attempt at the Early English style). Externally the church building has little of interest. Internally the story is a familiar one. The church was endowed by the Marquis of Bristol and quite naturally is fitted out in a Victorian fashion.

New library entrance revealed
The Bury St. Edmunds library is having a major refurbishment. The hoardings have now come down to reveal the new entrance.
The pedestrian route is called Sergeant's Walk, the tall building being the old police station.

Bury St Edmunds buildings [177]
This detached Quaker Meeting House was built in 1750, timber framed with the principal (east) elevation in white brick, the sides and rear stuccoed. There were alterations in 1791, when a gallery and screen were added, and in 1871 when the east elevation was refronted in brick. There was a major extension in 2008 when a glazed corridor and lobby were added along with garden room, kitchen, toilets, and storage space.
