B17 crash pit in Home Covert
In the days when Moreton Hall was a mansion, Home Covert was the nearest wood with shooting birds. The Hall has become a school, and given its name to a large housing estate in its former grounds. But in the meantime - on January 6th 1945 to be precise - a B17 Flying Fortress, fully laden with fuel and bombs at take off from the adjacent Rougham Airfield, plunged into the wood. Road, footpath and cycleway
Looking west on Symonds Road, Moreton Hall estate, Bury St. Edmunds. This estate has been the main growth area for Bury St. Edmunds for the last 20 years, though this is one of the oldest roads.

Moreton Hall Preparatory School
This school occupies a fine Palladian mansion built by the architect Robert Adam in 1773. The house is Grade 2* listed and visitors are welcome for tours by costumed guides during Heritage Open Days. The school http://www.moretonhall.net sits in 30 acres of parkland, which includes playing fields with cricket and rugby pitches.
