The grave of Duleep Singh, G.C.S.I. Maharajah of Lahore
The family lived at Elveden Hall in Suffolk with their children, where the Maharaja looked after his estate and organised shooting parties for his aristocratic friends.
Maharaja Duleep Singh died in Paris in 1893 at the age of 55, having seen India after the age of fifteen during only two brief, tightly controlled visits in 1860 (to bring his mother to England) and in 1863 (to cremate his mother's body).
Maharaja Duleep Singh's wish for his body to be returned to India was not honoured, in fear of unrest, given the symbolic value the funeral of the son of the Lion of the Punjab might have caused and the growing resentment of British rule. His body was brought back to be buried according to Christian rites, (despite his his re-embracing Sikhism) under the supervision of the India Office, in Elveden Church beside the grave of his wife Maharani Bamba, and his son Prince Edward Albert Duleep Singh. Former A11, Eleveden
Past the Church of St. Andrew and St. Patrick. A bypass was built around Elveden as part of the dualling between Mildenhall and Thetford as a dual carriageway wouldn't fit through here.

The chancel of Elveden SS Andrew and Patrick
In Victorian times a new chancel was built north of the old church and the whole of the north wall of the chancel is carved with images of the twelve apostles. The window has images of saints the centre one being Mary holding the young Jesus. The church is always kept locked as it is, in the words of the church warden "Full of valuable things people would want to steal" Christian thought for the day methinks.
