Former Pedestrian Bridge for the Golf club over the Former Southwold Railway
This is the former bridge that the golf club paid for to cross the cutting that the Southwold railway passed through, the bridge was made out of former track, a good picture of the bridge can be found in Branchline to Southwold by Middleton press (ISBN10:0906520150). The line closed in 1929 due to competition from road traffic.

Southwold Railway cutting
This cutting was for the Southwold railway (running from Halesworth to Southwold), the cutting is on the approach to Southwold station, the line was 3ft gauge and when in use the vegetation would have only been grass or bare mud. The line closed in 1929 after 50 years of service to Southwold and surrounding villages.

One of two supports for the central span of the footbridge
The footbridge designated #14, spanned the railway line over the cutting on Southwold Common golf course. Built in 1902/3 to provide access between both sides of the golf course, divided by the cutting. The golf course contributed towards its cost. There were concrete steps at each end down from the common onto the platform which was supported on four such blocks, this concrete and brick support and another like it on the opposite side of the track, (partially removed) supported the central arch and two more each end of the platform, at the foot of the steps.
