This cutting was for the Southwold railway (running from Halesworth to Southwold), the cutting is on the approach to Southwold station, the line was 3ft gauge and when in use the vegetation would have only been grass or bare mud. The line closed in 1929 after 50 years of service to Southwold and surrounding villages.
