Sizewell A and B nuclear power stations
Sizewell A on the left is decommissioned and waste is being taken to Sellafield by rail. This is undertaken by Direct Rail services (owned by Nuclear fuels) along the stub of the old Leiston branch. It is likely that Sizewell C will be constructed with the next decade.

Sizewell nuclear power station
Sizewell is the site of two nuclear power stations. Sizewell A, officially opened on 7 April 1967, has two magnox reactors, it is now in the process of being decommissioned. Sizewell B has a single pressurised water reactor, it was built and commissioned between 1987 and 1995 and is the UK's newest nuclear power station. A third power station Sizewell C is planned. Projected completion and first generation date of Sizewell C could be in 2031.

Sizewell A and B power stations
An interesting sky over the two power stations, the A being a MAGNOX gas-cooled reactor design, and the B being a Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR). How long do we have to wait for C? Strange that a wide beach and grassland survives here, without any man made defences, yet the next village south, Thorpeness, suffers continuous erosion.

The Golf Ball
Sizewell A on the left is decommissioned and waste is being taken to Sellafield by rail. This is undertaken by Direct Rail services (owned by Nuclear fuels) along the stub of the old Leiston branch. B is the golf ball, this is a pressurised water reactor. I remember (just) being taken on a tour around the site in 1994 when it was open to the public, sadly terrorists have shut that down. It is likely that Sizewell C will be constructed with the next decade. See also Image]
