Westgate
Modern Thorpeness was conceived by Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie in the early 20th century as a private holiday village. This is Westgate, a road off The Whinlands. The houses on the left, designed by Frederick Forbes Glennie, are all grade II listed - for listing particulars (in order away from the camera) see www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1287190, www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1287262 and www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1228493. Across the top of the road is Westbar, designed by William Gilmour Wilson, the tower of which was built to contain a water tank. it too is grade II listed - see www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1287172.
