The Longest Ford In Great Britain
Stoney Lane (sometimes called Derrybrook Lane) Debenham, Suffolk which is reputed to be the longest ford in the country. The River Deben runs for about a mile along a metalled road (a council maintained public road, although there are only three houses served by it) which is normally flooded in the winter and reasonably dry in summer.

The River Deben and the longest ford in the country
The ford is tarred for its whole length, which is just over a half mile. Only an inch or two of water in it on this visit. Needless to say it is never swept and mud and stones are plentiful along with potholes. It does get considerably deeper at times.

The end of The Butts
Beyond this point the lane follows the bed of the young River Deben, which rises a little way to the west. Today the track, called Stoney Lane, is officially closed for repairs by Suffolk Highways Dept. Not surprising after one of the wettest winters in modern times! The Deben eventually flows into the sea near Woodbridge.
