'The Red Lion' inn at Martlesham, Suffolk
This is a very attractive timber-framed inn. Just under the middle gable there is a carved wooden lion, painted red, which is the figurehead of a Dutch boat captured at the battle of Sole Bay in 1672.

Replacement Milepost by Main Road, Martlesham
Cast iron post by the UC road, in parish of MARTLESHAM (SUFFOLK COASTAL District), South of Red Lion PH, on the verge, back to brick wall, West side of road. Ipswich iron casting (replacement), originally erected by the Ipswich to South Town, & Darsham to Bungay turnpike trust in the 20th century.
Inscription reads:-
