Curson Lodge
At the junction of St Nicholas St and Silent St, Curson Lodge is believed to date from 1480 and is regarded as Ipswich's finest Tudor building. Grade II* listed. http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1265084

Penfold postbox in Ipswich
A restored (or perhaps replica) Victorian Penfold postbox at the foot of Silent Street is a nice feature of this conservation area. The black muzzle (known as a Belfast slit) means that only small and thin items can be posted, but a modern box standing only a few yards away in St Peter's Street can accept letters and packets of most sizes.
I could not find a number displayed on the Penfold box, but Adrian Cable tells me it is IP1 1468. Thanks also to Richard Ellis for information on Belfast slits.
