A restored (or perhaps replica) Victorian Penfold postbox at the foot of Silent Street is a nice feature of this conservation area. The black muzzle (known as a Belfast slit) means that only small and thin items can be posted, but a modern box standing only a few yards away in St Peter's Street can accept letters and packets of most sizes. I could not find a number displayed on the Penfold box, but Adrian Cable tells me it is IP1 1468. Thanks also to Richard Ellis for information on Belfast slits.
