Trimley Station footbridge
Each end of the footbridge at Trimley station has two sets of steps as it not only provided access between the platforms but was open to pedestrians needing to cross the tracks when the level crossing was against them, a purpose it still serves today. The platform on the left is now disused, with the track passing beside this giving container trains access to the western end of the Port of Felixstowe freight loop. The platform on the right is used by the hourly passenger services between Ipswich and Felixstowe in both directions, as well as container trains accessing the eastern end of the Port of Felixstowe freight loop. Beyond the level crossing the railway becomes a single line all the way to Westerfield, although there are plans to double at least part of this route to cater for the increase in container trains.

Trimley Station
This is a view of Trimley station from the footbridge, which saves pedestrians having to wait for the level crossing to open in their favour. Two tracks still pass through the station although the platform nearest the camera is no longer in use and passenger trains in both directions use the other platform. The track nearest the camera gives access to and from the western end of the Port of Felixstowe loop line just beyond the trees on the right. The other line is used by the Ipswich to Felixstowe passenger services and by container trains to and from the eastern end of the Port of Felixstowe loop line. Both tracks are signalled for bidirectional working therefore.

Disused platform at Trimley station
The disused platform at Trimley station is still in a reasonable state of repair, despite the flora now taking up residence. The line passing this platform is still in use, but by container trains only, to and from the western end of the Port of Felixstowe freight loop.

Railway line towards Ipswich
Seen from the Trimley station footbridge two tracks pass over the level crossing in the foreground and then become a single line from here to Westerfield, although there are plans to double the track along at least part of the route due to the expansion of the container terminal and the subsequent increase in the number of container trains. Both the lines shown here are signalled for bidirectional working. The line on the left gives access to the western end of the Port of Felixstowe loop line and is used exclusively by container trains. The line on the right is used by the Ipswich to Felixstowe hourly passenger trains and also by container trains to and from the eastern end of the Port of Felixstowe loop line.
