Railway line towards Ipswich

Seen from the Trimley station footbridge two tracks pass over the level crossing in the foreground and then become a single line from here to Westerfield, although there are plans to double the track along at least part of the route due to the expansion of the container terminal and the subsequent increase in the number of container trains. Both the lines shown here are signalled for bidirectional working. The line on the left gives access to the western end of the Port of Felixstowe loop line and is used exclusively by container trains. The line on the right is used by the Ipswich to Felixstowe hourly passenger trains and also by container trains to and from the eastern end of the Port of Felixstowe loop line.
