The Barnardo’s home at Barkingside featured cottages (in which girls could live in a family-like environment) around three large greens. On the death of Thomas Barnardo, a memorial statue was erected at the point where the three greens met. Only one of the greens survives now; the cottages on the north side are occupied by Barnardo’s administrative staff and those on the south side have been converted to housing for the elderly.
