The Great Eastern Railway's Fairlop Loop line including Newbury Park station opened in 1903. The lines to and from the junction at Seven Kings occupied the central reservation in this view. In 1936 work began on a tunnel that would bring the line from Newbury Park northwards into the Central Line of London Underground. Construction was halted by WW2 but it was completed in 1947 and electric underground trains replaced the steam service. The link to the main line at Seven Kings closed in 1956. Looking south from the A12 bridge. The grassy area in between the two tracks used to be a branch line from Hainault to Ilford, connecting the Central line with the Great Eastern main line. It closed in the 1950s and much of it is now overgrown and used as allotments by the Goodmayes Allotment Society. The westbound (London-bound) tunnel is out of sight since it is around the right hand bend and slightly underneath the ground surface.

This is the view of the Central Line from the A12 Eastern Avenue bridge immediately south of Newbury Park station. In the distance the lines curve to the right and go into, and emerge from, separate tunnels going to, or coming from, Gants Hill station. However, the original railway through here, built by the Great Eastern Railway as their Woodford and Ilford Branch and opened in 1903, headed straight on towards Ilford. Passenger services to Ilford ceased in 1947 when the Gants Hill connection was made.

This building is directly above the northbound tube tunnel, and the southbound one runs behind it, at fairly shallow depth as they emerge a short distance to the north Image There was probably a substation here from c. 1947 when the tunnels extending the Central Line to join an existing railway at Newbury Park were completed, but this building looks more recent than that.

This rather elegantly-proportioned office block nearly opposite Newbury Park underground station is like an outlier of the cluster at nearby Gants Hill.
