Little-used crossover west of Barking station
The vegetation growing on this trailing crossover suggests that it is little used. See Ben Brooksbank's photo
Image for a photo of the same lines in steam operation 45 years earlier. In the background a London Underground service climbs the flyover, which Ben tells us was opened in 1961.

View over the lines approaching Barking station from a 169 bus on Northern Relief Road
Today I was lucky enough to be on a 169 bus which was on diversion because of its usual route along Ilford Lane being closed due to a collision, which gave me the opportunity to get this unusual shot of the lines approaching Barking station from the top deck! A Class 710 London Overground train can be seen entering Barking station on the Barking to Gospel Oak line. Looking north-northwest.

Fenchurch Street - Shoeburyness train approaching Barking
View westward, towards London; ex-London, Tilbury & Southend (LT&S, Midland from 1912) line, six months before it was electrified from 6/11/61. The train, 12.25 from Fenchurch Street, with LMS-type Fairburn 4MT 2-6-4T No. 42255, is on the Down Fast line and will take the direct route via Becontree. The Slow lines, leading towards Dagenham Dock and Tilbury are over on the far side, beyond the flyover opened on 11/5/59 to carry the Up Tilbury traffic onto the Tottenham & Forest Gate (T&FG) line to Gospel Oak, Kentish Town and St Pancras. In the foreground are the London Transport District/Metropolitan fourth-rail electric lines and nearest is the Down T&FG line.

GOBLIN train leaving Barking
GOBLIN is an acronym for the Gospel Oak to Barking Line - the eastern end of the North London Line, and the only diesel-operated line of the rail network entirely within Greater London (although at the time of submission in 2015 there are plans to electrify it at last). Here, Sprinter unit 150123 leaves Barking at the start of its journey.

As seen from the footbridge between North Street and Loxford Road.
The lines on the right carry the District Line to Barking (tube-line), the line to Barking Terminus (the Overground Line), and the railway line to Barking.
The line on the left carries the High Speed link from Stratford towards the Channel Tunnel.
In the background is the Northern Relief Road bridge.
