Chantry House, Heptonstall
This was once four weaver's cottages. Part at least of the upper floor has been used as a charnel house where bones of the dead were stored after being removed from the churchyard to make room for new burials. No wonder that a ghost was seen during conversion and renovation work in 1960!

The Cross Inn
This was probably built in 1617, but has a Victorian façade. A local court was held here at one time, presumably manorial.

Former Shop and Kendal House, Heptonstall
Note the outside staircase up to the house over the former shop. The house to the right is Kendal House. The stone kneelers at the lower end of each gable are a feature of many of the buildings of Heptonstall. The entrance to the central car park is between these buildings; tourists are supposed to use a car park to the south of the village .

Longfield House, Heptonstall
A dignified house built c.1730, although the windows with stone mullion and transom making a cross shape, was an earlier feature.

Towngate, Heptonstall
Here there is a double-bend in the street. The building straight ahead looks to have been one or two shops. Part of Longfield House can be seen round the corner.
