Horsehold, Horsehold Road
The gradient eases as the road passes through this small farming community above Hebden Bridge, but there is quite a way to go yet to reach the summit of the 1.2-mile climb out of the Calder Valley.

Horsehold Road below Horeshold
Heavy overnight snowfall and a shortage of salt has effectively pedestrianised the road up to the hamlet of Horsehold from Hebden Bridge.

Horsehold, Erringden
A house and farm at the western end of the hamlet. I don't think that porch would get planning permission nowadays!

Horsehold Road
Looking uphill towards the junction with Beaumont Clough Road (a bridleway). The road was effectively closed to most vehicles due to heavy snowfall. A shortage of salt meant that some minor roads such as this were not being gritted.

Big grin on Horsehold Road
This road climbs steeply for 1.2 miles with a height gain of 185 metres from the River Calder near Hebden Bridge to the edge of the moor at Erringden. It is one of 128 road climbs in the Pennines with a gradient of 1:4 or steeper. Here the cyclist has just conquered the steepest part of the climb - but there's no freewheeling yet awhile.
