Tall building near to Washer Lane Dyeworks
I think that this was an office building. It is on the 1907 map but not on the 1894 map. The cobbled road is an alternative access to the works.

Houses on Scarbottom Road, Skircoat
An interesting row of houses. I suspect that the porches are a later addition to early 19C cottages, as a row of houses is shown here on the 1850 map and the masonry of the porches does not look as if it is keyed in to the house walls. Most of the porches have an arched window over the doorway, but the central two have a trefoil.

Most of the houses on Scarr Bottom Road are on the north (uphill) side of the road, giving them a good view over the Calder Valley. For another view of this terrace see

Closed entrance to underground water source in Delph Hill Road
John Edward Wainhouse was the owner of a Dye Works on what is now the Washer Lane Industrial Estate. He constructed a number of tunnels into his land on the hillside above the Dye Works to collect water arising naturally, and pipe it to the works. This example is in Delph Hill Road.
