Grovehill Road, Beverley, Yorkshire
In October 2007 it was announced that 2,500 post offices in the network of 14,300 were to be closed. Grove Hill Post Office, No.165 Grovehill Road, was on the list for East Yorkshire; the building has subsequently been converted into two separate apartments.
On the façade is the Victorian post box, which displays the former collection times of 8.30 a.m., 11.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m., Monday to Saturday; 2.45 p.m. on Sundays, Bank Holidays and Good Friday.
Postscript: Chris Downer informs me that this 'Victorian' post box is a fake: "The tell-tale signs are the words "POST BOX" on the rain-hood (which would always be POST OFFICE if genuine) and the lack of any door to empty the box. The keyhole makes it look as if there is a door there but if you look closely you'll see that there isn't. The crown is too large for a Victorian box, too."
