Switch on to safer streets and always leave a light on and keep burglars out

Response (7 Oct 2024)

Always lock your doors; even when you leave briefly, are outside on your property, or inside your home. Also, keep your valuables in a safe or lockbox when you go out.
•Lights - You can get plug-in timers for your lamps - and timers for your ceiling lights. Don't just light up the hall. Fool a burglar by lighting up the landing, bathroom, bedroom and living room too. Really fox him by varying the times each light comes on.

•Sound advice - Use a plug-in timer for a radio - make it a talk station rather than music.

•Windows - Remember to shut all windows, even small and upstairs ones, when you leave the house, in your garden or in the rear of your property. If you're upstairs, close your downstairs windows and if you're planning some time away, get a trusted neighbour to shut the curtains at night. You could return the favour some time.

The period from today (Monday 28 October) to Sunday 10 November is always one of our busiest, however, we would like to offer reassurance to those who are looking to enjoy Bonfire Night or those that prefer not to. We want to remind those intent of causing harm or committing offences, that we are out in force and ready to act against anyone spoiling others’ fun.

Response (4 Nov 2024)

You will begin to see additional police presence on patrol in and around your neighbourhood over this period. We really want everyone to enjoy themselves so we want to remind the public we will be there to deal with any incidents promptly.

“We take a zero-tolerance approach when it comes to anyone deliberately looking to harm others enjoying the occasions. This includes people being antisocial and behaving in a way that taunts or intimidates people, or throwing things at people, their houses, or cars.

Fellow Cyclists as the dark nights draw in Humberside Police would recommend the below advice to help keep everybody safe whilst out on our bikes.

Light it up!
Making sure you can see where you’re going is key. So, make sure you have a light on the front and the back of your bike, in fact we think the more lights the better – having a light illuminates the road for things like potholes that you may not otherwise be able to see. So, stay safe and stay light.

Reflective gear
As important it is for you to see, it’s just as important for people to see you. So, make sure you wear reflective gear when you’re cycling in the dark. If you’re a fashion junky never fear, the reflective clothing has become a lot more stylish over the years.

Safety in numbers
If you’re travelling far and it’s getting dark, we would always suggest that you cycle with someone. There is always safety in numbers and it’s good to know you have someone with you if anything does go wrong.

Response (4 Nov 2024)

Be prepared!
This can be applied to most things – be prepared for the weather, the infamous British weather changes by the hour so you never know what the nights forecast could bring. Be prepared for punctures, always carry a mechanic kit with you just in case. Be prepared in your journey home – know where you’re going, plan your route so you avoid getting lost in the dark – you could end up going round in circles otherwise.

4 Nov 2024

Make our streets safer and hand in your weapons

Response (4 Nov 2024)

Your local community officers will be involved in engagement events to raise awareness prior to and during this operation.

If you have a Weapon, please drop it into one of the amnesty bins located at stations on the map.
