Site of Hay on Wye railway station
The station at Hay (not Hay on Wye until the 1950s, and renamed in an effort to make the town more attractive to tourists) was in the background of this shot, where the buildings are; the route of the railway is easily discernible in the foreground.
The railway at Hay was open as early as 1816, as part of a tramway from the canal at Brecon. The route went through various changes of ownership, ending up in the hands of the Midland Railway, who used it in order to encroach into the Great Western Railway's territory. Part of the Wye Valley Walk now uses this section of the trackbed; the station site is a car park used mostly by canoeists.

Shrine to secondhand Penguins, Hay-on-Wye
The interior of Addyman Books has been decorated with colourful panels from a Transylanian church. Buying secondhand books on the internet might be easier and more efficient, but a visit to browse the shops in Hay is always more fun, and can yield surprising purchases.

The Three Tuns, Hay-on-Wye
Pub on the corner of Broad Street and Bridge Street. A blue plaque http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3089941 on the Bridge Street side states that this is a three bayed cruck timber framed building of 16th century origin.
A conspicuous house http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3089692 is in the background.

Intersection of Offa's Dyke path and Wye Valley Walk
Both these long distance routes cross the River Wye here; Offa's Dyke crosses the bridge to the left on its way north, while the Wye Valley Walk crosses in the opposite direction to head eastwards towards Hereford.
