The Old Tile Factory, Lugwardine
The remnants of the original Godwin tile and brick factory now delightful housing. Encaustic tiles were made here from 1853 and were used in new and restored churches and cathedrals all over the country. Of all the Victorian tile makers, Godwin came nearest to capturing the look of medieval originals. That delightful 'orange peel' look eluded all the competitors.

Godwin Tile and Brickworks, former office building
This is the office building of the famous tile works, whose products are still to be seen in cathedrals, churches and public buildings all over the country. The works were in the field behind the office, which is now 2 charming cottages.

Former offices of Wm. Godwin, tile and brick manufacturers
Two rather ornate cottages at Hemhill dating from 1848 which were once the offices and boardroom of the Godwin tile and brickworks.

Lugwardine Chapel
Built in 1880, with additions of 1897. Built at the expense of W.H. Godwin, whose tileworks were nearby. The chapel contains an amazing Godwin tiled floor.

Lugwardine Chapel
Built as a Wesleyan chapel in 1880 and rebuilt in its present form in 1897, it is still in regular use. It was embellished by William Godwin, whose tile works adjoined. The works provided the chapel with a magnificent encaustic tiled floor, which I could only see through a window.

Lugwardine Chapel
Built in the final quarter of the 19th century with a beautiful tiled floor, and shown on the OS map 1905 as a Mission Room. William Godwin, a well-known tile maker, funded the building and it was known for many years after as Godwin's Chapel.
