The remnants of the original Godwin tile and brick factory now delightful housing. Encaustic tiles were made here from 1853 and were used in new and restored churches and cathedrals all over the country. Of all the Victorian tile makers, Godwin came nearest to capturing the look of medieval originals. That delightful 'orange peel' look eluded all the competitors.
