Tailgating on the M40
It never ceases to amaze me what people who tailgate hope to gain by driving too close to the vehicle in front. How many seconds or metres lie between the white car in the centre and the car in front I wonder?

M40 motorway - junction 2 bridges
The bridges here are still those originally provided in 1973 for a conventional roundabout junction over a 3-lane (plus "hard shoulder") motorway. When the section between junctions 1a and 3 was widened in 1997/98 a decision was clearly taken to sacrifice the emergency lane at each structure, rather than incur rebuilding costs.
