Grove Farm East frontage
Grove Farm, formerly called Grove, is a moated medieval manor house. It fell into disrepair and by the 18th century was being used as a barn. In the 1960s, in order to preserve the fabric of the building (including its fine Tudor roof), the building was turned back into a house, under the supervision of the Ministry of Works. The 15th century arched doorway (shown in the photograph) was repaired with stone from the original quarry in Tisbury, Wiltshire - over 100 miles away. The window in the West frontage is also 15th century. Moat at Grove Farm
Parts of the moat (unusually a double moat) remain water-filled throughout the year. Late Iron Age pottery has been found associated with parts of the moat, but it is not at present possible to state when it was actually dug. Cottage at Grove Farm
Where Grove Farm is marked on the map there are several buildings. This cottage is off a track up to Fox Meadow Kennels & Cattery. Grove Farm itself achieved brief fame in the 70s as it was featured in a TV series entitled "Seventy Summers" about the farmer and his 70 years on that farm.
