Marks Gate, Ashlyns Road, Berkhamsted
Very little seems to have changed over 40 years see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1765860 other than the former hedge, which had been removed when the new owner moved here, so a new one was planted about 24 years ago.

Marks Gate, Ashlyns Road, Berkhamsted in 1970
This was the home of my paternal grandfather from 1929-1960. Looking at family photographs of 1929, the house appears new, as it was built in 1919. I assume he named it after Marks Gate in Essex from where his mother came from, see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1655097 (her maiden name was Drake). Previously, he lived at Ronhead see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2111152 in Montague Road, Berkhamsted. He and his wife are buried in St Peter's Church cemetery see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1763946
