Bourne End bottom lock 58
The bottom of three locks to the south-east of Berkhamsted. This one is by the sewage works, left, and comes closer to the railway line again.

Bourne End middle lock 57
This lock conveniently fits into the top right hand corner of this square, giving something interesting to photograph. A previous user had cleared a lot of weed from around the paddle holes, a common problem. Unfortunately, by being left adjacent to the lock like that, it will just go straight back in courtesy of the boot of the next yoof.

Grand Union Canal near Berkhamsted
The Grand Union Canal just clips across the north-eastern corner of the grid square here. This is the approach to Lock No. 57, Bottom Side Lock. A kingfisher whirred its way over the canal just as the photograph was about to be taken.
