Old Railcar at Monks Risborough Station
This was running the Princes Risborough - Aylesbury shuttle this evening. I haven't seen one of these for a few years. I didn't know they were still using them. It says Reading on the front for some reason. Update:- The last service using these units ran on May 19th 2017. Chiltern Railways ran a few specials on the day.

Old Railcar leaving Monks Risborough Station
One of a couple of pictures I took of this train just because I thought it was a bit unusual. See also Image I'm not particularly an expert on railways, but I don't recall seeing cars like this in service for a long time. How many are still running?

Monks Risborough railway station
The original halt was opened in 1929 by the Great Western Railway on the line from Princes Risborough to Aylesbury, and was around 150 yards beyond the end of this station's platform. It was relocated to here in 1986. View south west towards Princes Risborough.

Monks Risborough Station
The railway here was originally opened as a broad gauge route in 1863, later becoming part of the joint Great Western/Great Central system in Buckinghamshire. The station at Monks Risborough, however, did not open until 1929 (as Monks Risborough & Whiteleaf Halt) and was relocated to its present site in 1986. It serves a residential area on the outskirts of Princes Risborough and, despite only having very basic facilities, is used by about 20,000 passengers per year.

Monks Risborough station
Chiltern Railways run services from Monks Risborough to Princes Risborough and Aylesbury and direct services to London Marylebone at peak times. It must have a very small catchment area - there is no car park and no obvious use of unrestricted parking in the adjacent road. Users must presumably walk or bus to the station.

Crowbrook Road, Monks Risborough
The access steps to Monks Risborough station can be seen beside the National Rail sign; a ramp is also provided out of shot to the left. Unusually the waiting shelter faces the road - there being no room on the very basic platform for such a facility.
